UT
UT is a piece for flute, cello, prepared piano and Feed-harp︎ composed during the course of Contemporary Classical Composition at Conservatorio N. Piccinni in Bari.
The idea of the piece is based on the harmonics series of the middle C.
During the course I explored the extended techniques of cello, flute and piano that is referred to the contemporary musical practice with an eye on composers that started a development process of these techniques such as : Luciano Berio, György Ligeti, John Cage, Edgar Varese, Heinz Holliger, Bruno Maderna, George Crumb, Pierre Boulez and others.
I've done a research on prepared piano and specifically on the techniques adopted by John Cage in his Sonatas and Interludes.
I've found different sounds inserting different objects made of different materials between the strings, also I tried to play the strings with different mallets and sticks.
Last but not least I've used a self-built musical instrument, part of a larger project that I'm still developing.
The Feed-harp︎ is an hybrid instrument composed by a section that includes the strings and its wood structure and a metallic section made by a metallic sound diffuser inspired by the Crystal Baschet invented by Baschet brothers in 1952.
The two sections interacts with an electronic/digital system using piezo sensors and exciter speaker.
